Overview

Ahead of the official reveal, the high-performance M35i was teased on social media, showing off details such as its illuminated grille, large wheels and four round tailpipes. It was fully revealed on 11 October 2023, with the introduction of the first ever battery-electric iX2 model. Both models went on sale in early 2024. The BMW X2 and iX2 was presented to the public at the Japan Mobility Show in Tokyo on 26 October 2023. Deliveries to US showrooms started in March 2024. 06 Buyer's guide

Who it suits

  • Buyers who want ground clearance, a high seating position and load space: the typical strengths of the SUV body.
  • Drivers buying for enjoyment rather than space: coupes and roadsters trade rear space for style and handling.
  • High-mileage or city drivers who want lower fuel use without charging.

Check before you buy

  • Ask for a battery state-of-health report: the traction battery is the main value driver in a used hybrid or electric car. Battery SOH tool
  • Check the emissions equipment (particulate filter, NOx treatment) and the destination country's emissions rules; some markets restrict used diesels.
  • Ask for service records: turbocharged engines are sensitive to oil changes and cool-down habits.
  • Read the auction sheet grade and notes, and verify the odometer against service and inspection records. How to read an auction sheet
  • Run a history check (accidents, flood, mileage) before you bid. History check guide
  • Import age rules: this generation already qualifies in Kenya. Confirm the rule for your exact vehicle with customs before buying. Landed-cost calculator
