Overview

To prepare for the third-generation van, in 2015, Mercedes-Benz Vans decided to switch North American Sprinter production to complete knock-down kit (CKD) assembly, kicking off an expansion of the Ladson factory in 2016, and the first Ladson-built Sprinter rolled off the assembly line in September 2018. The Freightliner version was discontinued after the 2021 model year as part of the Daimler Truck divestment in the Freightliner brand in October 2021. The third generation Sprinter was updated for the 2023 model year in the U.S., offering a new, all-time all-wheel-drive option with retirement of the selectable "4×4" option; additionally, a 2.

05 Buyer's guide

Who it suits

  • Families, groups and shuttle work: the people-carrier body is built around seating and access.
  • Work and haulage: a truck body is chosen for its load bed and payload.
  • High-mileage or city drivers who want lower fuel use without charging.

Check before you buy

  • Ask for a battery state-of-health report: the traction battery is the main value driver in a used hybrid or electric car. Battery SOH tool
  • Check the emissions equipment (particulate filter, NOx treatment) and the destination country's emissions rules; some markets restrict used diesels.
  • Ask for service records: turbocharged engines are sensitive to oil changes and cool-down habits.
  • Read the auction sheet grade and notes, and verify the odometer against service and inspection records. How to read an auction sheet
