Overview
The fifteenth-generation Crown was unveiled as a concept at the 45th Tokyo Motor Show in October 2017 and went on sale on 26 June 2018. The vehicle is built on a narrow version of the same TNGA-L platform that is used by other Lexus and luxury Toyota sedans. Three engine choices are offered, along with numerous trim packages. Trim levels for the Japanese market Crown are B, S, G, G Executive, RS-B, RS, and RS Advance. All trim levels are offered with either rear wheel drive or full-time all-wheel drive. The S220 Crown carried over the 2.0-liter 8AR-FTS turbocharged four-cylinder gasoline engine from the previous model, introduced the 2.
Toyota Safety Sense 2.0
The fifteenth generation Crown is equipped with Toyota Safety Sense 2.0 just like most Toyota models for 2018. Some added or improved features include: (LTA) Lane Tracing Assist; Dynamic Radar Cruise Control (with all-speed vehicle following function); (PCS) Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian Detection (can detect bicyclists and even pedestrians at night); (AHB) Automatic High Beam; (RSA) Road Sign Assist; Advance car launch notification function

Who it suits
- Executive and chauffeur use: the saloon body prioritises rear-seat comfort and a quiet cabin.
- High-mileage or city drivers who want lower fuel use without charging.
Check before you buy
- Ask for a battery state-of-health report: the traction battery is the main value driver in a used hybrid or electric car. Battery SOH tool
- Ask for service records: turbocharged engines are sensitive to oil changes and cool-down habits.
- Test the four-wheel-drive system (transfer case, differentials) and look for uneven tyre wear.
- Read the auction sheet grade and notes, and verify the odometer against service and inspection records. How to read an auction sheet
- Run a history check (accidents, flood, mileage) before you bid. History check guide
- Import age rules: this generation already qualifies in Kenya. Confirm the rule for your exact vehicle with customs before buying. Landed-cost calculator
